Growing up with a mother who writes children’s books inspired Katie, and she had her first poem published aged just 8. After graduating from drama school, she was chosen as a winner of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ Undiscovered Voices competition for her debut Young Adult novel Someone Else’s Life. The novel, about a teenage girl who discovers she was switched at birth, won several awards and is published all over the world. Katie’s second YA novel, thriller Little White Lies follows Lou, a teen girl starting university with a new identity. But who can you trust when you’re living a lie – especially when you discover your new boyfriend is doing exactly the same thing, but for very different reasons…?

Katie has now had over 20 books published for children of all ages, including middle grade comedy Mumnesia, about a girl whose mother gets amnesia and thinks she’s 12 years old and time-travelling from the 1980s, and The Never-ending Birthday which has been described as “Groundhog Day – for kids!” She has also written many early readers and a funny rhyming series for 5-7 year-olds – Fairy Tale Twists – one of which has been adapted into a ballet.

She loves meeting her readers, and visits schools all over the world, even as far afield as Moscow and Uzbekistan! Find out more at

Katie will be part of the Panel discussing writing for children and young adults, at Opus Theatre on Saturday 1 September
